What is the fuss about Samantha Katie James? So, to give a context, for those who aren't aware of Samantha Katie James, she is a Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 who shared her thoughts about Black Lives Matter on her Instagram.

She wrote: “I don’t live in America, it has nothing to do with me, but to me, it seems like the ‘whites’ won.”

“If you’re angry, you respond in rage and anguish and that means it has power over you. They have power over you, Foolish humans.”

“To the black people, relax, take it as a challenge, makes you stronger. You chose to be born as a ‘coloured’ person in America for a reason. To learn a certain lesson. Accept it as it is, till now hunger and poverty still exists. It is what it is. It’s inevitable. Best you can do is remain calm, protect heart, don’t allow it to crumble. That’s your responsibility.” With this statement, people start flooding in her social media demanding her to clarify what she meant by "You chose to be born as a ‘coloured’ person" and her answer literally adds fuel to the fire.

I am impressed with the effort people are taking going through Wikipedia and changing the content based on what just happened. ‌

But jokes aside, let's talk about why you are reading this article. Her statement on black life matter could be wrong, her justifications for her statement might offend you, the way she apologized could be annoying for you, her attitude towards others could be judged but frankly speaking at the end of the day it doesn’t solve anything. You could sign the petition to revoke her status as Miss Universe, you can bash her in social media, you can be happy that her verified blue tick was removed from Instagram but what problem are you solving? ‌

Compare to what is going on social media, unemployment rate is going to increase, people who just finish their degree might go unemployed for months, there are families out there who are impacted drastically cause of this lockdown, inequality is still happening, racism is still out there,  and 1001 problems more; and all we can do was going to social media and cyber bullying someone just for their opinion. If you think what is happening towards Samantha in social media is not cyber bullying, I would recommend you reading up the comment section of her post in Instagram. Imagine those comments were for you. ‌

Negativity spread faster than positivity and that had been so true in social media. We jump into giving our thoughts, criticism on a viral negative matter and just give “thumbs up”, “good job”, “great work” on positive achievements. When I see this, the only question that I have was “Why could it be the other way around?”.

Three weeks ago, we have an issue with Kobi (of his statement on girl), a week after that we got a news about a girl suicide to dead cause of cyberbullying for a Tik Tok video and now here we are again; cyberbullying Samantha for her opinion and attitude in social media. Here is a post that I saw on Facebook which sounds logical to me and kind of summarizes what I want to talk about.

Prediction: A statement will be released by her in regards to the viral post. She will state that it was a typo or bad...

A statement by Mario Mangz Calistus Singho
We have major problems to deal with, perception must change. Stop amplifying negativity towards others and start addressing the real issue. Let’s reach for the unheard voice and help them out. Let’s become more open and radical about our actions. Let’s make a goal to give a valuable impact on someone’s life. Stay educated.
